A dismal, depressing account of his life in Costa Rica, masquerading as a guide for realists. It is far too personal to be an unbiased overview of life in CR. Daniel seems very unhappy in CR and i was left questioning why on earth he carried on living there. Sure we do not need sugar coated memoirs but i could feel the anger and frustration simmering between the lines and i stopped reading it half way through. His comparisons are too often inaccurate, a very simple case being the statement that CR pays a double tax whereby the USA doesnt. Surely everyone knows that 99% of countries including the USA pay duties on their imports at the port of entry as well as at the point of purchase?Product details

At first I was turned off by the really terrible cover art but I bought it anyways because in this day and age $15 for a paperback by an unknown author is an irresistible bargain. My slow friend loved it.
Shows the pitfalls that other books tend to ignore. Very helpful. Lots of highlighting done. I loved the real-life stories
Very practical, informative and even-handed.
Informative but same information as found in online forums and other books about CR. not a bad book but nothing new.
Covers the fundamental bases... If you want to avoid the Viper Pits... then read the book. It is very clearly written... if you pay attention you may avoid falling on your face and getting devoured in Paradise.
